About the Unit:

The English Language Unit at the Applied College in Northern Border University is a specialized center for teaching English language skills to all college students.

The unit seeks to enable our students to master the English language to be outstanding leaders in their fields, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to their community.

The unit offers a variety of English language courses to serve the needs of all students, including:

- English 1 and 2: Core courses for all Applied College students.

- English in the Workplace: A specialized course in the workplace for all students of the Applied College.

Objectives:

-  Developing basic English language skills in all college students, including grammar, reading comprehension, error analysis, and vocabulary enhancement.

- Enhancing students' effective communication skills through simulated work environment programs and participation in activities.

- Preparing students for standardized English language tests.

- Organizing various training programs and courses.

- Building a distinguished team of competent and experienced faculty members.

- Building a distinguished research team of qualified and experienced faculty members.

- Providing a stimulating learning environment that encourages learning, communication, and interaction.

- Participating in events and activities that enrich students' experience and contribute to the development of their linguistic and social skills.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Preparing quarterly plans and following up on their implementation in all branches of the Applied College and preparing evaluation and development reports for these plans.

  2. Preparing English language course descriptions and reports according to the forms of the evaluation and academic accreditation bodies, in coordination with the Quality Assurance Unit electronically.

  3. Transferring all the unit's work and achievements electronically through the Applied College One-Drive to comply with the digital transformation at the university.

  4. Preparing the course file electronically in line with modern developments in the scientific field and sharing it with the Quality Assurance Unit and the supervisors of academic programs.

  5. Determining the number of English language courses, their times and places, selecting a qualified faculty member to teach them, and setting the dates of midterm and final exams in coordination with the schedules and tests unit at the college.

  6. Establishing partnerships with the public and private sector regarding English language courses and standardized tests in coordination with the Training Unit and the Partnerships Unit.

  7. Coordinating and communicating with the unit coordinators in the college branches for consultation and coordination.

  8. Participating in the preparation of the strategic plan and the annual report of the Applied College about the unit.

  9. Developing and delivering courses that focus on basic English language requirements as well as English language skills in the workplace.

  10. Supervising the English Language Club and providing opportunities for learning and practical communication through it.

  11. Preparing and implementing English language placement tests for new students.

  12. Providing basic and advanced courses for standardized English language tests.

  13. Issuing/Awarding certificates that prove students' English language proficiency.

  14. Participating in the development of the English language unit's curriculum.

  15. Searching for modern teaching methods and techniques to teach English more effectively.

  16. Monitoring students' performance and providing them with the necessary support.

  17. Cooperating with other college departments to meet the needs of English language students in various disciplines.

  18. Participating in events and activities that contribute to enhancing the status of the English Language Unit.

  19. Carrying out any other tasks or responsibilities within the scope of specialization as directed by the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
